TriStar Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics is a one-stop shop for all pediatric dental treatments. Because we specialize in pediatric dentistry, you will never need to see a specialist outside of our office. We are the specialists! We provide an array of treatments for your child, including:
- Dental Exams & Cleanings: Routine check-ups to ensure your child has a healthy, developing mouth. We will also identify and treat any issues that arise.
- Dental Sealants: To prevent cavities, we can apply sealants to your child’s rear molars. Sealants keep the nooks and crannies clean and free of cavity-causing bacteria!
- Fluoride Treatment: Fluoride is a valuable mineral typically found in our water supplies, it helps our teeth become healthy and less prone to decay. If your child needs additional fluoride treatments, we can provide these right in our Dickson office.
- Fillings: Ideally, we hope to prevent any cavities in your child’s teeth. However, if they do occur, we will provide tooth-colored fillings to blend in with the color of your child’s teeth.
- X-Rays: Along with exams and cleanings, we will take x-rays of your child’s mouth to ensure their adult teeth are growing and developing correctly. We are also able to spot problems like cavities sooner with the use of x-rays.
- Root Canals & Pulp Therapy: Root canals occur when bacteria from a cavity penetrates to the center of a tooth. This can arise from a cavity or dental injury. If necessary, our pediatric dentist will perform a root canal or pulp therapy to save your child’s tooth and minimize the effects on your child’s dental development.
- Non-nutritive Habits: We want to ensure that the structure of your child’s teeth and jaw is correct from the beginning. Unfortunately, habits like thumb and finger sucking can disrupt these structures. In fact, long-term thumb sucking can alter the position and shape of your child’s jaw and teeth. We will monitor your child’s bite as they develop and give you tips on how to prevent bad habits like thumb sucking.
- Frenuloplastia & Frenectomies: From birth, a child may have extra tissues bands connecting the lips, cheeks, or floor of the mouth, these bands are called frenum. Our pediatric dentists can perform an oral surgery to remove these bands and prevent interference with your child’s dental health.
- Sedation: Sedation dentistry may be necessary for some children. Our pediatric dentists will administer a drug to sedate your child. Occasionally, this is necessary in cases of particularly anxious children, children with special needs, or children with a gag reflex. We will carefully sedate or semi-sedate your child for a short period to check their mouth and teeth.
- Dental Emergencies: Anything can happen, even when we are trying to play as safe as possible. If your child experiences a dental emergency, please call us immediately. We will provide guidance and schedule an emergency appointment.
- Tooth Extractions: It is our primary goal to preserve all of your child’s teeth. However, if a tooth extraction is necessary, our pediatric dentist will walk you through the details. Tooth extraction may be required due to a dental injury, extreme tooth decay, overcrowded teeth, or a baby tooth that will not fall out on its own.
- Athletic Mouthguards: We love that so many of our patients play sports. For this reason, we provide custom-made athletic mouthguards to protect your child’s teeth from falls, balls, or anything else that may come there way while on the field. We even offer mouthguards that fit over braces! These mouth guards are more than just the boil and bite mouthguards we commonly see at the store. A custom mouthguard provides the perfect fit to give your child optimal protection.
- Nightguards: An Occlusal guard is often called a night guard or a bruxism guard. It protects against bruxism, which is the clenching or grinding of the teeth that happens primarily at night.
